This book is an attempt to group certain proverbs, or sayings, according to a possible similarity of ideas conveyed by them. These classified proverbs amount to over a thousand. They are given with Russian translations or, when possible, with Russian equivalents of a varying degree of adequacy. Any of these proverbs may be found either listed thematically, or by reference to the English and Russian indexes given in alphabetical order in the book.
